Gardening and Attention Deficit Disorder

I am looking forward to retiring from teaching, grubbing in the dirt, and making my yard look beautiful. Along the way, I'll work on some of my ADD related issues.

What do you enjoy planting in your garden?

Have you started your garden, yet? What have you planted?

I am going to make a raised bed garden by using cinder blocks. I saw this on stumble.

I have two raised beds. One I purchased; the other I used old boards and bricks to assemble. I have snow peas growing in the one bed. The other has a few potatoes and newly planted green beans.

More potatoes are planted in a traditional garden bed along with two tomatoes and newly planted green beans. We are doing a smaller garden this year. I hope to plant some zucchini plants and spaghetti squash plant in a few days.

My front yard is a flower garden, and I have a backyard pond. I am also growing potatoes in a container.

The backyard pond sounds lovely. I would love to know how the potatoes do growing in containers. Never tried it before.

I tried growing potatoes under straw and it worked well. Our Midwestern soil has a lot of clay in it, so they actually did better in straw than they did underground. We had a better yield in the straw.

I have heard of growing them under straw. I may try that another year. Glad it worked.
