Debbie Reynolds, so well known for her singing, dancing and lighthearted comedy movies, did take on a radically different role in What's the Matter with Helen?.

Reynolds and Shelley Winters play two women with a big secret they want to keep, but the stress is enough to make you lose your mind. Is that what is happening to Helen?

A heads-up for anyone who would like to take in this movie - it airs on the TCM channel on Friday 4 April at 5.45pm Eastern / 2.45pm Pacific.

Worth seeing.

I just read Debbie Reynolds autobiography (Debbie: My Life by Debbie Reynolds and David Patrick Columbia, pub William Morrow 1988) in which she talks about working on What's the Matter with Helen? with Shelley Winters.

Reynolds suffered a collapse on set due to the stress of working with Shelley Winters, who threw frequent tantrums. Winters once kicked her dressing room door off its hinges because she was angry with Debbie Reynolds for being thin.

Shelley Winters took Method Acting very seriously, and really inhabited her role as a psychotic murderer.
