A Name Blessed by God

Hello Lynne, I once had a domestic helper whose name was Goodbye. It does seem odd, and of course she had her ethnic name too - Siyabonga; but for her life she used and preferred Goodbye because her Granny told her, it meant GOD BE WITH YOU. By nature she was a fine person and devout yet full of fun etc. Who says a name doesn't count? Cheers Lestie Container Gardeining Editor

I never thought of Goodbye meaning God be with you. That makes it a great name - something she probably thought about every time someone used the name.

Hi there, no joke, at school we had a gardener called Amen. We were taught that one possible meaning of Amen was ... we all agree... And then you know how people use the phrase ... and amen to all of that... or similar. This was back in the then Rhodesia now Zimbabwe (I grow old, I grow old...) and Amen was going to horitcultural school while doing fulltime gardening on a parttime basis for the school to gain his practical experience. We used to tease him and each time he would say something like Yes but my name is Amen so you have to agree (that I am smart/or that I am good etc.) He really was a character. Thankyou Lynne for this post and subject, you have given me a really nice lot of memories to think over. They were the good old days in many ways - school days and all and all.
