BPAA TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF LADIES PRO BOWLING TOUR
2014 Women's All Star Event Set For Rockford, Illinois

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) today announced plans for the 2014 Women's All Star Tournament. The event, scheduled for July 20, 2014 in Rockford, Illinois, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of formation of the Ladies Pro Bowling Tour and highlight the history of women's bowling.

"Women have made valuable contributions to the sport of bowling and provided some of the best excitement on the lanes," said BPAA President Cathy DeSocio. "It is only fitting that on the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Ladies Pro Bowling Tour we honor the stars of the past as well as showcase the stars of today and the future," adding, "Traditionally, women have not had the same type of high profile events as the men, and we think this is a perfect opportunity to turn the spotlight on them."

The Women's All Star Tournament was the pre-cursor to Bowling's U.S. Women's Open which began in 1971. In addition to exciting competition on the lanes, plans include a dinner honoring women bowlers and other events to celebrate women's bowling.

BPAA's Tournament Committee will focus on the Women's All Star event while they re-boot the Bowling's U.S. Open format to resume in 2015.

"After running successful events in Dallas, Reno and most recently in Columbus, Ohio, and soliciting some in-depth feedback from participants and BPAA member centers, we want to look at ways to freshen and improve the Men's and Women's Bowling's U.S. Opens in 2015 and beyond," said John Losito, chair of the BPAA Tournament Committee. "In the meantime, we are excited to have this great opportunity to celebrate women's bowling in 2014."
