I have read the book Fidget to Focus and found it helpful. The basic idea is that allowing a child (or adult) to move a little bit helps them focus better than trying to force them to sit perfectly still. A fidget can be almost anything. There are lots of fidget toys out there. I have found doodling and crochet to work well. Any craft you do not have to spend your full attention on works. Also if you have the style or work desk where people do not see your legs and feet, you can move them a lot without it being noticable.

Thanks Ilah! I think that the fidget is an often overlooked skill when helping a person to focus. I teach kids to fidget quietly. It works so much better than trying to "tame" the fidgets!

Sometimes, it is hard for people without ADD to understand this. I often have adult staff try to tell my students to "stop fidgeting."

I think that might I see a fidget article coming!

Ilah, I have ordered a copy of Fidget to Focus and will review it for readers. Again, thanks for the idea. It has been a long time since I even mentioned fidgets in an article.

What fidgets do you use as an adult? I like to doodle.

I usually crochet when I talk to people not at work. At work I have this thing I put my feet on. I think it is designed as an active seet cushion. It is inflated with thick rubber. When you put pressure on one part, the other side goes up a little. So it is good for moving my feet back and forth.

I've been reading research that says adult ADD/ADHD is undertreated. What are your thoughts?
