Hello Everyone --

With the permission of Bettina, your Dog Website Editor, I am posting an article from the Veterans Website on the War Dogs used during the Vietnam War. These dogs were loyal to their handlers, and saved lives. Read about the dogs here:

The Vietnam War Dog D.O.A.

For their faithful service the U.S. Armed Forces had most of these dogs euthanized at the end of their tours.

Such an undeserved ending for so many loyal, protective, working dogs. Being as intelligent and sensitive as they are, their demise is really quite sad and callous.

There was a law passed by Congress in the year 2000, which allows civilians to adopt War dogs. They are no longer put down. If you would to see one of these websites you can go to

militaryworkingdogadoptions.com

Check them out.

Ouch!! The US Army is rather strict, and demanding. It sometimes does not value the things and people it should, but in running an organization so large, there must be sacrifices made by all. You know as the British would say, "For God and Country."

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune, and hope the authorities will press it to the fullest extent of the law.

Thanks for your comment.

Ray.....so glad to hear that there is a better outcome for military dogs these days. There's also a recent article about a group of soldiers adopting an entire family of dogs, a mom and her puppies, met when the soldiers served in Afghanistan. Great story.
