Connie! I read your article on this...great! I will pass this on to some people I know and even Tweet it for you...it's great!
My twins school call us because they don't participate enough..eg. sticking up their hand in class, communicating with their classmates or volunteering for quizzes and such. One was bullied last yr in 4th grade (was a very stressful year - one had to go to summer school). (Smiles) no summer school this year but me and dad had to work VERY hard to help them! I think that is wrong..or things have changed dramatically in the teaching system. Our parents barely helped us back in the day and we passed our exams ok.
Comparison: We moved to NY a year and a half ago (mid-term), big culture shock!!! BIG!! They were dumped in a school which consists of 99.1 percent Chinese. They have always been a little shy but were coming out of it in Cali before we left. They don't even talk to each other in class (the teacher said!).
Going into 5th grade next month, at the same school, we want to combat all the negativity from last year.
I know this isn't your topic, and I haven't looked to see whether we have an "education/elementary Editor"...maybe you know someone who I could vent with and get some good help from.
Both girls are very, very bright! Sometimes they choose not to be..frustrating...and we think they are playing us sometimes...lol..maybe it's a "twin" thing!
