What is yours?

Mine was years ago. There was a zombie infestation and me and my mom were in our backyard surrounded by zombies. Elmo was there reaching to us saying over and over "Mamma!" and my mom went to reach out to him but I stopped her and told her that we could not help him because he had been bitten. He continued reaching out to us saying the same thing then he started to change. I woke up right after he started to change. I was sweating so much that my pajama and sheets were covered in it. I had remorse for months about not being able to help Elmo in that dream, no joke!

I understand it was a horrible dream. But it was a normal dream.

Great question, Nancy. I'm not sure if I can recall my worst nightmare since I have learned to release--or more likely repress--those frightening images.

I have had some nightmares that were paranormal events that involved ghosts and negative entities. Those are particularly off-putting because in dream state you are so vulnerable.

I recall as a child having terrible nightmares that my parents died (common among children). That is the worst thing that a child can imagine, I suppose, and I would awaken in tears.

Once I had children, I would occasionally have nightmares of not being able to protect my children. Once, I had a horrible one during which I left my baby's car seat on the car roof and drove off. Another time, I dreamed that I went to drop off my older kids to school and remembered that I left my baby at home all by himself. Again, those are typical new mother/mother nightmares.

After watching certain movies, I would have nightmares about the scenes or similar scenes.

My worst nightmare is actually a recurring dream that I sometimes have. It involves being chased by someone I can't see through a maze of sorts. Sometimes it is a parking lot, sometimes a house, once it was a church. Where ever it is though, there is this feeling of pure panic and terror, and I must keep away from whoever it is or something horrible will happen.

Michelle, in order to stop those nightmares about being chased, you'll have to muster up the courage to face what is chasing you.

You can do this in your wakeful state via hypnosis, if you like.

There is some memory of a past threat that wants you to face it. It can come from another person or even yourself (self recrimination, guilt). You'll find no safe place to hide from it.

It is time to tell yourself that this "something horrible" that will happen has already happened. Reliving it may bring back some of that emotional pain but it can heal it and put an end to it.

Transmute it. Change it. Use your personal power to change this memory from pain, fear and terror into power by finding the jewel inside of it which is the life lesson. When you can look back and say, "Thank you. Without this experience, I wouldn't be the strong person I am today. Without it, I would not have learned _______."

Thanks Lori.

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. I haven't had the nightmare in several years now - since I went through counseling about 6 years ago when we first discovered my depression (actually bi-polar). But it is still something I tend to look at sort of "sideways" rather than hitting it "straight on".

Well now, that makes sense. The nightmares seem to have stopped since you've been going through counseling. smile

Facing things "sideways" feels safer and less confrontational but you're still facing or addressing the pursuer so it's all good. smile
