Very interesting. I knew about caffeine withdrawal causing headaches and such, but I never considered it a mental health disorder. I guess it is the same as any other type of withdrawal, though.

Good article Ilyssa. I’ve noticed changes in my body when I drink two or more cups of coffee a day. I'm discovering that one really good cup of coffee in the morning is all I really need. I guess it's like anything else, moderation is the key.

Many people wonder why caffeine withdrawal would even be considered a mental health disorder. As with many MH disorders, symptoms overlap and the committee that worked on the most current DSM believe people should be aware of caffeine withdrawal symptoms so as to better diagnose. It appears that there were cases that were first thought to be something more severe and turned out to be the effects of caffeine withdrawal.

I am pretty certain most people are unaware there are in fact four other caffeine related disorders already listed in the DSM.
