Have you ever been stressed out and found yourself with an upset stomach? Your brain communicates with your gut. Now, researchers have found that it is a two-way street. The gut communicates with the brain and what it says depends on the flora in the gut! Are there implications for ADD? Read on! Gut Flora the Pre-frontal Cortex and ADD

What do your intestines have to do with your brain? More than you might think! This article takes a snippet of a larger article in Science Daily and relates it to ADD.
Don't you just love research!?

It appears that the type of flora that you have in your gut influences the way that your brain works. Isn't that amazing?

Some other foods that have probiotics in them are the preserved vegetables. Those are sauerkraut, pickles, and Kimchee. I'll bet there are others. Do you know what they are?

Very, very interesting article.
I'm only barely a neuroscience student, and only amateur at that. While familiar with the pre-frontal cortex and it's tasks, there is one thing in the article that confused me slightly. When you say connectivity is lower between the pre-frontal cortex and the brainstem, that means there's less ADD-esque scattering going on?
A paper I did last term also stands strongly in favor of the two-way communication between the brain and the body. Neural plasticity is a remarkable thing.

Leif, that's a good way of putting it. When the response in the pre-frontal cortex is damped down, it helps to curb heavy emotional responses. This, in turn, allows more logical thinking. I was a bit befuddled by this at first, but I just love this research.
Neural plasticity IS a remarkable thing!
