I need some insight as to why my 3 yr old male finds it necessary over the last few months to poop on the carpet. We have 2 litter boxes and a 2 yr old female. Both are spayed/neutered and such loveable animals. It's distressing! Please help!

Territory and scent.

I have 3 females and 2 males in the house.

Send them out of the house as often as you can - especially the males.

And, maybe get a cat door and get them in the habit of going out right after they eat.

Take this UPC Number and paste it in Amazon:

010279106273

This is the most cost-effective way to spot clean messes.

Please get this book UPC #

9781593373306

One of each product above will cost you $18 + Shipping around $20

That will get you started.

When your budget permits, you can invest in a UV Light which will show the urine and territorial markings at night so you don't waste product:

It is mentioned in the book.

Hope this helps,

My cats are indoor cats. Outdoors is out of the question since I live in the city. Thanks for your info though.

Will you pursue those products ?

I have no other affiliation other than being a consumer.

I am assuming that the litter boxes are cleaned often, because that could be an issue. A new situation in the house could be distressing to your cat. Have you been living in that house for long?

Burt is right in that there may be something on the carpet telling the cat that this is the "potty".

If this behavior continues I would take the cat to the vet to rule out any health issues that may be going on. They also may have other suggestions to eliminate the problem.

Debbie,

Yes the litter boxes are cleaned very often, I make sure of it because of this problem. However, I think I will thoroughly disinfect the carpet (thanks Burt). We moved here from Cali 14 months ago and he never did it there at all...then we got the female spayed here in NY and she became more loveable and that's when this started...maybe he's feeling left out or something as the female now gets petted and cuddled as much as he used to...now he has to share.

Thanks for all the thoughts smile
