When discussing the realities of how agribusiness handles farm animals, concerns about antibiotic use and humane living conditions need addressing, for both their welfare and continued human health. Read Further: How Factory Farms Degrade Livestock

A great article. I recently did a research paper on this same topic for my Argumentative Writing class.

As a former chicken owner, I love chickens and it pains me greatly to see how we manufacture them and their eggs to feed us.
I envision a time in the near future when how we see and manufacture food will be vastly different from now, when we will not exploit sentient beings as food.

If we didn't cram animals into unsanitary conditions there would not be such a need for antibiotics in the first place. Those drugs should only be used to treat problems, not be used as supplements.
Humane treatment in a clean and natural setting would make for a healthier animal and better meat. I pains me to think of what we do to livestock at factory farms. I am happy I don't eat a lot of meat, and I am very selective on what I buy for meat and eggs. Too many antibiotics in the meat could be one reason why we have so many diseases, too. Too much of something will always upset the balance.
