How do you find a fresh loaf at the store? Do you leave your fingerprints all over the bread? Some people squeeze the bread in the store to test it for freshness, while others just take their chances. How can you know how fresh a loaf of bread is when it is on the shelf at the store? There's a simple way; it's as easy as ABC. Twist Tie Codes and Fresh Bread

Connie.....I have known about this system for several years now and it does come in handy. Usually the tags have both color and a date, so it is easy to get the freshest loaf.
Although I do think if I was going to the store on Saturday and both a green and yellow tag was on the shelf, the yellow tagged bread would be the freshest being delivered the day before, on Friday.

Thanks! It's fixed. I think that I lost my concentration for a moment--not that I'm blaming it on ADD!

Over time, this has been one of the most popular non-sandwich themes on the Sandwiches site.

Have you tried checking out the colors on the twist ties and tags on bread? What do you think? Is it easier than the squeezier?

Me neither. It doesn't seem fair to squish bread and leave it for someone else.
Anyway, the bread I usually buy isn't very squishy because I like the heartier grain breads.
But thanks for the color coding info. I never knew that! That definitely will help me.

I buy the denser grain breads as well. Right now I am in love with Pepperidge Farm "Farmhouse 12 Grain Bread." I like it because it stays fresh longer than most breads and I can keep it a week longer than the expiration date without it molding. Love the texture with the seeds in it and the taste is not bitter like some grain breads.

I love the Ezekiel Sesame. It does need to be refrigerated.
