It´s easy to think that being organized means having a picture perfect home. The truth is perfection has nothing to do with being organized. Once you stop striving for perfection you set yourself free to pursue what really matters. Only then can you define what being organized means for you.

Thanks Debbie - I appreciate the comment! Life is so much better when you let go of striving for perfection. It's not easy to do though - our culture, especially our media, sets us up to think we should all be perfect.

Since reading your article I am taking on a new mantra for cleaning and organizing around the house....good enough really is good enough. It is helping! I have a bunch of tasks to do before I go off on vacation and I want the house to look nice, but I only have a few more days to get things done. I will do what I can, and good enough will indeed be good enough!

Thanks for a great article.

In my early years, I could have become fanatical and controlling about cleaning but I knew it would lead to an obsession and a very unhappy family.

Now I see that perfection is subjective. I felt liberated once I accepted that there is no such thing as perfection. Yay!

My home is reasonably organized and healthfully clean. It's not perfect but it has an entirely happy atmosphere and we love living in it.

Hi Lori,

You obviously have your priorities nailed. Being happy in your environment is huge - not many people can say they are satisfied. High five yourself for creating a such a reality! And for being so self aware - that's a biggie!
