At this time of year, as daffodils start to bloom throughout the land, I am reminded of Wordsworth's poem about these sunny flowers that welcome the spring... Daffodils - William Wordsworth

Susan I too find I can enjoy this poem again and again - somehow I have found at different stages in life it has reminded me or made me think of different things, but always it has made me remember the value in honouring things which are freely given...

What a super analysis of 'Daffodils' Asha. A favorite poem of mine, and daffodils themselves an absolute favorite flower. Know it by heart, so many years of reading it does that , and now whenever I go through the words in my mind they will have taken on a whole set of new nuances.
The Lake District is beautiful most times of the year but when William Wordsworth walked it it must have been stunning, and he just captures the scene for us perfectly, it is easy to imagine without our ever having been anywhere near.
He didn't much like Germany when he visited with his sister Dorothy and friend Samuel Coleridge, but in the late 18th century the country at that time would have been a very different place from the peaceful Lake District, even if they had visited it in the spring and not autumn.
Thanks for featuring the poem, perfect timing.

Thanks Asha for your article on Wordsworth and his poem, Daffodils.
My three favorite William Wordsworth poems, in no particular order, are To a Sky-Lark, The World is Too Much With Us and Daffodils.

Edwardd thank you for your comments. The World Is Too Much With Us is a poem that seems almost more relvant today than when it was written, particularly the first two lines:
The world is too much with us; late and soon, Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers.
To A Skylark has a thread similar to Daffodils in it in showing how something from the natural world can lift the poet's spirits.

Francine what lovely feedback - I am impressed that you know the poem by heart!
The Lake District must have been so different in Wordworth's time. Your comment on this made me think of JRR Tolkien who lamented the destruction of the natural world in which he grew up - a theme which is mirrored in the changing of the Shire in his books.
I wonder whether Wordsworth's reaction to Germany was in part unfamiliarity - he knew and walked the countryside he loved, and thus had a standard which few other places would be able to match.
