To all or none from Sri-Lanka
Friends:
Calm (samatha) & Insight (vipassanâ):
There are two principal kinds of mental development: 1: Development of mental tranquillity and calm (samatha-bhÄvanÄ) culminating in the development of concentration (samÄdhi-bhÄvanÄ) And! 2: Development of insight (vipassanÄ-bhÄvanÄ) culminating in the development of understanding (paññÄ-bhÄvanÄ). Both qualities: Calm and Insight, are essential & crucial for release! Tranquil Calm (samatha) is the pleasant, peaceful, yet lucid state of a settled mind acquired as a preliminary to meditative absorption. It blesses the meditator with 3 things: Happy life, happy rebirth, & a mental purity suitable for gaining progressive penetrating insight! Concentration is a necessary prerequisite for such incisive insight.. Why so? It removes the distractions that veil the investigating vision! Insight is that which leads to entrance of the 4 stages of Nobility.. Why so? It irreversibly removes gross and latent mental hindrances! The term samÄdhi literally means ~being firmly put evenly together (sam + a + dha) and is mental state focused on only one single object: cittassa-ekaggatÄ, which literally means ~ one-pointedness of mind. Any state of consciousness has a degree of mental concentration! One may distinguish these four stages or levels of concentration: 1: Momentary or transient concentration (khanika-samÄdhi), 2: Preliminary or preparing concentration (parikamma-samÄdhi), 3: Access or approaching concentration (upacÄra-samÄdhi), 4: Absorption or attainment concentration (appanÄ-samÄdhi). Insight (vipassanÄ) is the penetrative understanding, gained by only direct meditative experience of the inherent transience, misery, and selflessness (anicca, dukkha, anattÄ) of all physical and mental states of existence included in these 5 clusters (khandha) of mental clinging: form, feeling, perception, mental construction, and consciousness... BhÄvanÄ is derived from the causative form of the verbal root bhu, bhavati = to be, to become, causing to be, making come into being, the calling into existence of, the production of or development of. When applied to Mental Training this simply means Meditation... buddha Shakyamuni

Text by Banthe
Among tigers, lions, leopards, bears [& frogs] I lived in the jungle.
No one was frightened of me, nor did I fear anyone.
Uplifted by such universal friendliness, I enjoyed the forest.
Finding great solace in such sweetly silenced solitude…

To all or none, text by banthe Faith is an advantageous Hand, Wealth and Seed:
Using it as a tool they have faith. Just this act of having an anchor is itself faith. Its characteristic is trusting, having confidence in & being fully convinced about. Faith's function is to clarify, like a filter, and to promote entrance like a door. Faith manifests as devoted non-wavering, and as a quite resolute determination. Its proximate cause is something to have faith in, and hearing the Saddhamma. It should be seen as a hand because it takes up and holds all advantageous states, as mental wealth since it leads to future prosperity, and as a seed that initiates growth of all that is truly good.
The Blessed Buddha said: Faith is all being's best wealth; Dhamma praxis brings best happiness; Truth indeed has the best taste of all; Living in and by understanding is best! Sn. 182
Confidence is the seed, Self-control is the rain, Understanding is the yoke & plough, Shame and Conscience is the pole, A well working mind is the yoke-tie, Awareness is the ploughshare & goad. Sn. 77
By Conviction is the flood crossed; By endurance is the ocean crossed; By effort is one's suffering quelled; By wise understanding is one purified! Sn. 184 Buddha gautama

To all or none,
What I like about Buddhism is :No dogmas no sins ,except that I will have to live with the karma of the action made but specially ,The Master said:(these are my words) If you do not like it my way,i.e.understanding apart of the Dhamma ,do it your way.
I do not know of any phylosophy or religion that gives you this freedom.I might have written more than once a post similar to this, but ,it id the feeling of freedom of thought that turned me on.
May you be well, free thinkers, however following ,what the elders or Masters have written.

The Blessed Buddha once said: It is impossible, Bhikkhus and Friends, and cannot ever happen, that one possessed of right understanding should ever regard any phenomenon as really permanent ... or any phenomenon as lasting happiness ... or any phenomenon as an identical, unchanging, same, and 'my self'... But it is quite possible, that an ordinary worldling may indeed have, entertain and act upon such naive, false and distorted beliefs... buddha Gautama

Friends:
Harmlessness is the Best Protection!
The Blessed Buddha once said: May all creatures, all living things, all beings without any exception, experience good happiness only! May they not fall into any harm. Anguttara NikÄya 4.67
Solitude is happiness for one, who is content, who has heard the Dhamma and clearly sees. Non-violence is happiness in this world: Harmlessness towards all living beings.
The Noble is not one, who injures living beings. The Noble is one, who never injures living beings. Dhammapada 270
Ever are the true disciples of the Buddha well awake and quite aware. Constantly they meditate both day and night on Harmlessness! Dhammapada 296-3
The one who has left all violence, who never harms any being at all, whether they are moving or still, who neither kill, nor causes to kill, such one, harmless, is a Holy One! Dhammapada 405

To all or none Text by Bhikkhu Samahita Friends:
Free from Fear by Release of Anxiety:
The young deity Subrahma once asked the Buddha: Always frightened is this Mind! Always troubled is this Mind! Always agitated is this Mind! About present problems... About future problems... If there is a release from this worry & anxiety, please then explain it to me right now!
Whereupon the Blessed Buddha simply declared: I see no other real safety for any living being, except from control of the senses, except from the relinquishment of all, except from awakening into Enlightenment!

To all or none From Bhikkhu Samahita (thera) Friends
What made the Bodhisatta seek Enlightenment?
Sitting in his upper chamber the immensely rich young brahmin Sumedha thought like this:
Not seeking Purity: When a man soiled in dirt sees a pure lotus covered lake, but does not seek it to get a clean bath, it is not an error of the lake, but a fault of the dirty man... Even and exactly so: When there is the great lake of the deathless NibbÄna capable of purifying all the mental defilements, yet it is not being sought by the mentally polluted being, then it is not an error of this immortal state, but a fatal fault of the mentally contaminated human being...
Neglecting the Way: When a man surrounded by robbers does not flee, though there is a possible way to escape, then it is not an error of this open way, but a fault of the man neglecting to break free by this road... Even and exactly so: When there is this blessed Noble 8-fold Way leading straight to absolute freedom, yet it is not being used, then is not an error of this supreme method, but a fault of the man failing to follow, clear and develop this ancient path...
Rejecting the Doctor: When a seriously sick man does not seek the help of the doctor, who knows the effective cure, then is neither a fault of the doctor nor of the medical treatment, but a mistake of the sick man! Even and exactly so: When there is this sublime Teacher, who can cure all mental diseases & thereby allay all frustration and pain, yet he is not being sought, then - indeed - it is not a fault of this guide, but a grave error of anyone mentally unhealthy and defiled and thus prone for downfall...
These thoughts made the young man give away all his richness and become recluse in Himalaya: Later he met the Buddha DÄ«pankara and at his feet made the determination to be come Buddha.
