Led by two academics at Oxford University, the 1.9 million study found that human thought processes were rooted to religious concepts.

Children were asked whether their mother would know the contents of a closed box. Three-year-olds believed that their mother and God would always know the contents, but by the age of four, children start to understand that their mothers were not omniscient.

Yes, it is overwhelmingly part of human nature to lead children to religion. The "rooting" is done by their upbringers not by the intrinsic nature of humans.

If a child at birth were raised by those proverbial wolves???

Ten out of Ten! The streak is broken! Huh??? lol
The impermanece of it all-in a non-Buddhist sort of way.

Edit: There is some constancy in the world though, as a new streak was started in a little over two minutes. It just shows that you do not have to be a god to be all-knowing. lol

Les, have you noticed the Hawk Nest Watch thread in the Native American forum? Jane keeps us up to date on two little hawks that were born not long ago and they are already spreading their wings, ready to venture out into the world. I think you will enjoy the pictures and the updates.

I would be interested to read your thoughts on the symbolic meaning of the Circle of Life that these hawks represent.

Thanks for that post Les. Here is something totally random for you and anybody else who reads my crazy rants:

Random thought: Why do most people walk around thinking everything is about them. You make a comment about something and all of a sudden you've offended whoever for whatever reason (religion, ethnicity, education level, etc.) and your comment was never about them or what they believe or "their people" to begin with!

I think so many people these days are so fragile (broken self esteem and can't even think objectively anymore) OR they're walking around with a massive stick up their a** (sorry but I really need to vent today). I wish people would just get over themselves.

As Miguel Ruiz states in The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book)

Be Impeccable With Your Words
Don't Take Anything Personally (It ain't about you, ever)
Don't Make Assumptions
Always Do Your Best

BTW, I'm breaking all 4 agreements by posting this but I'm not perfect and I'll do better later grin

Monica as I know that you have a super sense of humor and this is after all the A/A Forum- well, what else would you expect from people who hubristically (is that a real word?) create deities in their own image.

LOL! Is this what you mean: The Rhythm of Life - Sammy Davis is awesome in this number.

Daddy started out in San Francisco,
Tootin' on his trumpet loud and mean,
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth Daddy,
Spread the picture on a wider screen."
And the voice said, "Brother, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Hit the road, Daddy, leave your common-law wife.
Spread the religion of The Rhythm Of Life."

And The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom,
Rhythm in the street,
Yes, The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
To feel The Rhythm Of Life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet,

Daddy, spread the gospel in Milwaukee,
Took his walkie talkie to Rocky Ridge,
Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Till he landed under the Manhattan Bridge.
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, go-ing down below.

Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, go-ing down below.

Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Fly, fly, fly to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Swim, swim, swim to Daddy
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy,

And The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom,
Rhythm in the street,
Yes, The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
To feel The Rhythm Of Life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet,
To feel The Rhythm Of Life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet,

Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Daddy we got The Rhythm Of Life,
Of life, of life, of life.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Man!"

Phyliss Cosmically asked: Les, have you noticed the Hawk Nest Watch thread in the Native American forum? Jane keeps us up to date on two little hawks that were born not long ago and they are already spreading their wings, ready to venture out into the world. I think you will enjoy the pictures and the updates.

Phyliss, I have been following Jane, her husband, and the hawk family on a daily basis as that represents some of the best that life and the world has to offer- a renewal, rejuvination, and appreciation of the observed and the observers alike.

It also reminds me of the fragility, continuity, and connectedness of life and death. Many years back I took a trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands in far northern British Columbia whose tiny population is composed of around 45% of the indigenous Haida. Two local vivacious and "hip" Haida young adults were conducting for us a tour when they saw a dead raven their demeanor suddenly changed and they were totally taken aback and upset. You see, the Haida on the Islands belong to two major clans, the clan of the eagle and the clan of the raven. These two young men belonged to the raven clan.
If anybody is interested in indigenous cultures in a non-touristic setting (or beach agates or seeing loads of bald eagles or eating amazing salmon), the QCI is a fantastic place to go.

Way back when I had a girl friend who belonged to a born again Christian cult whose credo was: BORN TO LIVE. BORN AGAIN TO SERVE.

In reality what their credo should have been was BORN TO LIVE (Alienated, anomic (anomie, a term coined by the French sociologist Emile Durkheim who just happened to be an agnostic), and caucasian middle/upper middle class). BORN AGAIN TO TITHE, TITHE, TITHE...

When I went to their meetings and gatherings to try to figure out why extremely intelligent and witty Katie was so hooked, I would wear a T shirt given to me by an employee of mine, Diane, who hung out with bikers. The shirt said BORN TO RIDE.
Even when I wore that shirt, the leader of the group would look at me with a TRUE BELIEVER gaze in her eyes and truly think that I was a potential convert. It must have been the power of tongue talking that I never mastered!
