This new thread, will contain all the texts attributed to Buddha,on
my readings, researches .There will be Mahayana,Tibetans,Theravadin.
There is so much or so many sayings, that go unread

Today is the first one taken from the Thibetan book of living and dying.

This text is on impermanence and reality.

Know all things to be like this:
A mirage ,, a cloud castle,
A dream,an apparition,
Without essence, but with qualities that can be seen.

Know all things to be like this:
As the moon in a bright sky
In some clear lake reflected,i
Thought to that lakethe moon as never moved.

Know all things to be like this,:
As an echo that derives
From music,sounds, and weeping,
Yet in that echo is no melody.

Know all things to be like this:
As a magician makes illusions
Of horses,oxen,carts,and other things
Nothing is as it appears.

Hi Loong, nice idea. Is this passage Sogyal Rinpoche's words or his translation of Buddha's words?

To all or none,

In the same statement when speaking of rebirth, the text says ,if lucky one can be reborn in an nimal or a Woman!!!!!!!!!!!

I am member of other clubs on buddhim ,The group
Is Theravadin. This is one of the many club I learned from,,
I wished I had never read this part of buddhism.

All of that is that women are considered sources of cravings. So inferior, like a chair, car. Money ,power etc.

Loong.

To all or none,
Did some more research on woman in Buddhism. Here is what I found
[url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_Buddhism#Women_in_Early_Buddhism[url

Very different from what I had read in the other club.

Yes, of course there are thousands of Buddhist texts, and many are limited by the attitude towards woman of their culture and historical time period. This has of course happened in every religious tradition. But as you discovered, in many ways Buddhism was also groundbreaking, because it did allow women nuns, and one of the most treasured sutra texts - the Therigatha - was penned entirely by woman.

There are so many Buddhist texts, one definitely has to sort through them. Just because it is old and 'authentic' and written by a Buddhist monk does not mean it as in alignment with the Dharma. It will depend on the awareness of that particular writer. True awakening shines through a text as transmission if it is written by someone who was in alignment with the dharma. But of course, many people practice, and we all go through different stages, and suffer from much delusion along the way. Someone writing during that phase of their path will just create something that reflects their own state of mind.

I find that here in the West we tend to romanticize old texts, or anything written by a monk or in the East. But humans are human. Just because someone is a practicing Buddhist does not mean they have yet escaped all delusion or wrong views. And wrong views regarding women has been a constant problem (very much for Tibetan Buddhism also), and one that is only now being addressed, in the last 50 years or so. This is partly why I focus on women in Buddhism here at Bellaonline - to play a small part in the redressing of this imbalance, which will ultimately benefit all beings, male and female.

Incidentally, here are some of the articles I have written over the years on Women in Buddhism here at Bellaonline:

The Therigatha - First Buddhist Writings by Women

Pajapati - Buddha's Stepmother and First Buddhist Nun

To all or none,

The Buddha said on the need for Bliss:
Friends, for the virtuous one, correctly behaving, completed in morality, there is no need to wish:
“May I enjoy a clear conscience”, since the right action, of correct behaviour completed by
purifying morality, naturally results in the arising of a clear conscience.

Friends, for the moral one of clear conscience, there is no need to wish: “May gladness pervade me”,
since any clear conscience spontaneously is followed by the appearance of joyous gladness!

Friends, for the glad one there is no need to wish: “May rapture thrill me”,
since gladness automatically excites exalted rapture.

Friends, for the enraptured one there is no need to wish: “May calm tranquillity still me”,
since rapture inherently simply evaporates all urge and frustrated restlessness.

Friends, for one dwelling in serene tranquillity there is no need to wish: “May pleasure perfuse me”,
since abiding calmly in tranquil ease all by itself, makes one delight in pleasure.

Friends, for one perfused by pleasure there is no need to wish: “May I be absorbed in concentration”,
since a mind filled with pleasure effortlessly & smoothly condenses into a single focused unification!

Friends, for one concentrated there is no need to wish: “May I understand reality as it actually develops”,
since the undistracted concentrated mind efficiently penetrates phenomena & causes as they really are.

Friends, for one knowing & seeing reality there is no need to wish: “May disgusted disillusion detach me”,
since seeing reality & knowing how it always becomes, induces detachment by disgusted disillusion.

Friends, for one detached by disillusion there is no need to wish: “May I realize final mental release
through absolute knowledge & vision”, since such disgusted disillusion, friends, naturally, readily, easily,
essentially & characteristically culminates in the matchless, unsurpassable & supreme releasing liberation
by complete knowledge & vision. Yeah, so mighty is morality!

To all or none,

A shaved head does not make a monk!

I read that somewhere.
