That's a very cute tradition!

I am glad to see that generations still teach their kids any spiritual/or mundane everyday traditions and superstitions~

They make people gather to enjoy friendship &family and even chase spirits away!!!

Whether or not one is superstitious, Setsubun sounds like a lot of fun that the community can enjoy.

Fun is its own purpose, don't you think? Just like the famous Tomatina or tomato throwing festival that began simply for the fun of it all.
