Where is your favorite place to find used goods?

I'm really fond of the Goodwill stores. The ones in Southern CA have gotten very boutiqey and expensive, but in most towns you can still find wonderful clothes, shoes, linens, housewares, books, furniture and accessories.

When I go to Goodwill with my MIL, we always head for the linens section first. she likes to sew and be crafty. With my mom, we look at housewares. If I am alone, I go right to books.

The Savers stores are wonderful too.

In my experience, salvation army stores aren't usually that great.

Do you shop at these places? Which sections do you head for first?

Almost all of my shoes are thrift store finds - I love finding nice leather sandals for a few dollars.

What is fun about a thrift store is that you get to try new fashions without worrying if you are wasting money.

I just read a blog called The Man Repeller, and I got all excited to try mixing prints and plaids in odd ways. I realized I didn't have a plaid shirt. It cost all of three dollars to go get one! :-)

Fun.

I like thrift stores. I like the small private stores because sometimes you can find some really unique things. I am drawn to the book section and I like perusing the kitchen stuff even if I am not looking for anything in particular. It is just neat to see what comes in. Usually I don't find clothes that I am interested in, but it is still fun to look around.

I spent some time this summer working on making my bedroom up in a vintage "industrial" style. Of course, the best place to find these kinds of furniture/accessories items is from thrift stores.

Scored a neat file cabinet with a side door thing this week. $20 and it hold a LOT of clothes. Looks great!
