My mom said I can have my own sewing machine now, but I have no idea about how to choose it, I want to find one easy to use and not very expensive, I wonder if anyone can give me some suggestion about the brands and models which may good for a beginner, I intend to use it make simple projects.

I recently bought my first sewing machine. I am new to the hobby, so wasn't sure what I wanted. I knew I wanted to quilt and I thought I might enjoy trying to make items of clothing eventually. So a good friend recommended a Brother machine to me, she said (and it was the BEST advice) "make sure it has a button-holer, then you will be able to do just about anything for the first several years as you learn, and make sure it has several different stitches. I got my machine at Walmart for about $89 and it has about 20 stitches, a button holer, and I've been able to buy several feet to meet my other needs. I've had it about 5 years now and still, it is perfect for me! I have made about 8 quilts, and 10 skirts/pj pants, and a few craft items I see on blogs here or there, many placements, a tree skirt, and on and on. I love it and hope you have the same luck!
