Wow, I never knew those recipes! They sound delicious!

We always ate rice at breakfast either with miso soup or in fried rice with the egg scrambled in the rice while cooking or by putting a fried egg on top.

Sad to say that I have diabetes and must stay away from white rice now. :((((((((

And noodles.

Do you know how hard that is for a Japanese to stay away from rice and noodles?!?!?!

Awwww.... too bad. Can you eat sekihan or something? As long as the rice is not white? smile

Every day must be painful for you... It's not just the Japanese though - I believe all Asians are slaves to rice and noodles, especially rice.

Sekihan is probably worse as it is made with glutinous rice (the sweet sticky variety used to make mochi).

I think I have accepted that my diet will shave some years off of my life.

I always watch Martin Yan's Hidden China, a program that shows rural Chinese regions and the local culture and cuisine. In one area, rice noodles are eaten all day long, for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. I was drooling just watching that show! LOL!

Its technical name is dioscorea japonica. Basically, it's a species of yam that's native to Japan.

It's a specific type of yam with its own looks and tastes. Here's an external link to a pic of a japanese yam and more info on it:
