I know this is probably an odd place to put this post, but it does speak to success.

I was leaving Walmart today and the Salvation Army Bell Ringer was seated in a chair by his kettle, the bell was on his lap, and he was on his cell phone talking about his bills and how he didn't have enough money, not sure he had enough in the bank...etc...

I sometimes feel guilty when I walk past the many Bell Ringers actually doing what they are supposed to, especially when they take the time to greet and talk to you.

I don't really care if he was on a break, they usually go somewhere else. I can't help but wonder how this volunteer's actions will affect the people he is supposed to be helping.

OH! I can't believe that person would do that! I agree that his behavior is totally inappropriate. I don't think his actions are a very good reflection on the Salvation Army. Thank goodness those kettles are locked! He has a cell phone that he obviously uses a lot...wonder what his monthly bill is. I wonder if the Salvation Army has "management staff" who go by and check up on their bell ringers? I thought the bell ringers were all volunteers? I would certainly NOT put any of my money in this guy's kettle!

I'm glad the kettles are locked too, but unfortunately not everyone knows or trusts. I saw a delightful family manning the kettle together the other day. I actually gave a bit more that day.

But for this guy, it was sad he looked like a scruffy, dirty Santa and has been there often smiling and greeting customers. I don't know what happened on this day, but as they say it only takes one "mess up" to erase all of one's hard work. :-)
