The grandiose shoe collection of Imelda R. Marcos, wife of Ferdinand E. Marcos, former President of the Philippines has become a symbol of lavish living while in public office. Neglect and improper storage of the shoes led to its deterioration and decay.

Hi Rachel! My aunt would tell my mother, who loved shoes, that she had more shoes than Imelda Marcos! It wasn't until I grew up and read about Mrs. Marcos that I understood the comparison.

Hi Lori!

I'm glad the article has "helped" you appreciate your grandma's words. I think most women love shoes. I do and I don't bother to find an explanation, although it occurred to me once that it must be an effect of too much Cinderella when growing up lol

I don't understand why women love shoes. I grew up practically barefoot in Hawaii. We wore rubber slippers if anything. Nice shoes were for weddings and funerals.

Funny you mentioned Cinderella as I love that fairytale with the glass slippers.

Anyway, I'm not into clothes or shoes but I will dress appropriately as necessary. You can take the girl out of the islands but you can't take the islands out of the girl.

Ooops, Aunt not Grandma. Please don't tell your Aunt or she might get angry with me for making her a lot older smile

I loved Cinderella as well; I guess I made the connection because of her glass slippers and Prince Charming. The Philippines have a thriving shoe industry and we have towns that are into the slipper-making industry. Most Filipinos love footwear and it is not uncommon to own several pairs.

We are both from the islands, isn't it nice to have something in common. However, I grew up in the city, lowlands, then moved to a hilly area.

I remember Hawaii from that famous TV show here - Hawaii Five O. You have awesome beaches...
