Are you in the Merry Christmas or the Happy Holidays camp? Social networking sites are full of little banners proclaiming the need to keep Christ in Christmas and Jesus being the reason for the season. It seems to me that we Christians may be guilty of taking Christ out of Christmas.

Will We Keep Christ in Christmas ?
These are my thoughts. What do you think?

Great article Lynne!

Since I am HR at work, it's "happy holidays". I have had people complain about the tree we put up, so we no longer call it a Christmas tree, it's a holiday tree. This year we didn't even decorate it with balls, we cut did cut-outs of books, used colorful bookmarks, etc... (It's a library).

Everywhere else it's pretty much Merry Christmas. Though sometimes that is difficult because not everyone celebrates Christmas - it may be Hannakah or Kwanzaa.

Great thoughts Lynne. I live in India and here it's still Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays. It seems to me that Christmas celebrations have left out Christ and sadly even Christians don't bother about this. In India, Christmas is catching up as an important celebration purely because of santa claus and commercial interest. I'think Happy holidays may soon become India's Christmas greeting too.

This is a subject that has bothered me greatly for several years now and it is getting more and more prominent.

The holiday on December 25 is CHRISTMAS, Christ's Mass.

I wish my readers, friends, family a Merry Christmas. For those who do not celebrate Christmas, I wish them the best of the winter season, or the best for their own holiday.

Do the Jewish feel they should not say Hanakkah, or refer to their Hanukkah Menorah, or their festival of lights because it might offend Christians or other religions? No! They are proud of their traditions, their heritage, and the reason for their special holidays.

Do the African Americans not refer to the name Kwanzaa for their week long celebration so they will not offend Christians, Jewsish and other religions. No! They are proud of their heritage and the reason for their special holiday.

Why should Christians be told to not say "Merry Christmas" or call their beloved tree a Christmas tree? This is ridiculous!!!! Christians are just as proud of their heritage, their way of life, and the reason for their special holidays.

Every religion has the right to their own celebrations, so call it what it is.

Happy Hanakkah

Happy Kwanzaa

Merry Christmas

Whatever your faith, whatever your beliefs, whatever holidays you honour and respect, I wish you blessings, love, peace, joy and all the best of what you need in life.

Is being "politically correct" a higher honour than celebrating your Supreme Being and keeping your faith? I think not.

Thank you Preena. You are right. Sadly many Christians are getting caught up in the commercial side of this season and are themselves at fault for leaving Christ out of Christmas.

Thank you for your comments Phyllis. Very good points. My effort this year will be to reply to these people with words full of Christ's love instead of words full of my own indignation. It is more important that I show them why I am a Christian rather than standing up for my rights as a Christian.

Whether I am successful is yet to be seen. smile
