If you live near one of the links on this website you can bottle up all the free fresh water you need for personal and home use! Find a Spring One is near my home but it's a hike in. Not exactly something I will lug my five gallons jugs to! Have you ever used spring water out of the ground?

In rituals certainly- I'm always a bit careful re drinking from them , especially with all this 'fracking' technique for extracting oil becoming so popular.

There is a spring close to town that is monitored for water safety. There is a pipe that is connected in so you can put your jug under the pipe. It is soft enough I have used it for soapmaking before, and I know a lot of the local home beer and wine makers will grab that for their brews. When I lived without running water, I often got water from the spring. Not everyone who lives here has a well, and if you need to haul water, that is the free place to go. There is often a line - its a popular spot.

come to think of it I did drink our well water at our place in France with no effects. The tap wasn't labelled, and no-one told me for most of the week where that tap was connected to!!

Ian, not sure what you are talking about with the oil?
I've lived in a few places with nice springs. I can think of lovely springs in Prescott, Flagstaff, Idylwild and up a canyon from Boulder. Oh, also a nice spring in Golden, CO. With most of these I could drive up and fill some jugs. Not the Flagstaff one, though - that one involved hiking.
Some of the nicest water I tasted was in Hot Springs National Park (Arkasas?).
I'll have to poke around and see if there is a non-hiking one around the Verde Valley. Right now I get my good water free from a friend's well. That, and the rain water i catch!

Hi Jilly There is a basic overview of Fracking here , and some of the more worrying (besides the water pollution!) side-effects of this practice

Ian, that's odd and interesting. Frakking, to me, is a curse word substitute used in Battlestar Galactica. But i guess the spelling is different. I like my word better. Tap water igniting sounds really bizarre. Maybe we can get energy from harnessing the energy from decomposition and get away from oil eventually.

Spring water: I like to use those dark blue Reliance Cubes, five gallon each, to store my spring water.
I can lie them on their sides and use the tap just like i would my own sink taps - instant and low tech running water!

nope..I am not that lucky to have a spring water outlet in my area! But ya, we do consume bottled spring water by Samantha Springs. The water tastes really good.

Ahh the Reliance cubes are the water carrier of choice here for dry cabin living! Jilly, you would soooo fit in here in Fairbanks, AK. If the weather were only more kind, I would suggest you consider coming here. But it was -40 degrees last week, and will be again soon. (oh, for international folks, celsius and fahrenheit are the same at -41, so yes, it is that cold!)
