Hello everyone. I have been reading about a few typical Greek traditions and customs and I will be posting some of them here.

If you have a family tradition that you would like to share then you are more than welcome to do so smile

A game known as tsougrisma is played at Easter time using red eggs (these are dyed and act as a symbol of Christ's blood). The idea is that a group of people have an egg each and will gently tap it against another egg. The game carries on until there is only one whole egg left and the winner is considered to be lucky.

Christopsomo (meaning Christ's Bread) is traditionally served at Christmas time and is often individually decorated to focus on certain aspects of family life.

In Greece, Santa Claus is known as Agios Vasilis (St. Basil) and presents are delivered on New Year's Eve instead of Christmas Eve

Vasilopita is a cake traditionally made for the New Year and if anyone finds a coin in it, they will have good luck for 12 months

Name days have been celebrated since ancient Greek times and were in place of birthdays. In some parts of Greece, name days are still an important annual event.
