I always thought that since gyms are places to go an workout and improve yourself, everyone should feel welcome. If I didn't' feel welcome at a gym or workout facility, I wouldn't want to go back! I know a lot of places have worked hard to make themselves comfortable for new people.
Still, a lot of feeling self conscious is all in our heads, and the tips you give are good pointers to get beyond body image issues and start working towards better health!

Lisa, you are absolutely right. Some gyms do work hard to make new members feel welcome. However, there are still those out there that are slow in welcoming newcomers. There are also a lot of people who are very insecure with new experiences. I hope the tips on confidence will help new members at any type of gym or new class.
