Students that qualify for special education must have a formal Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP specifies the support that a child with physical and/or cognitive disability needs to succeed in the least restrictive environment.

What is an IEP?

Have you ever been through the IEP process? What advice do you have for others going through this process?

This is a great overview of the IEP. Kids with physical disabilities may qualify as "other health impaired." This is a broad category which also includes ADD.

Parents need to consent to initial placement and substantial changes in placement and level of services. However, there are times when a parent's consent is not needed. If a change in services is less than a 25% change, no signature is needed.

Thanks for giving such a clear view of the IEP.
