Did anyone in CA catch the Orionid Meteor Shower?

I sure didn't see any Orionids from Glendora. It was heavily overcast and when I woke up around 4.00 (which would be a good time, as the numbers are highest just before dawn), it was raining. A friend in Palo Alto didn't see any meteors either.

There was a fireball in northern California on Wednesday (which I neither saw nor heard, even though I was in Berkeley) which may have been an early Orionid. It looked spectacular on the news.

Did anybody anywhere see any?

I did not see a blooming, or I guess I should say a streaking, thing. I took late naps for three days in hopes of catching something just before dawn. Saturday night the sky here was beautifully clear, Sunday was overcast.

Did you see the news about the meteor rock that fell on a house in the Bay Area? It is authentic according to experts.

Oh yes, I did see that, Phyllis. But there must be more pieces as it was quite a large meteor. There was some confusion about it, but an expert has confirmed that the first piece and at least one other piece are definitely meteorites.

It's always good if a meteorite can definitely be connected with a well-observed meteor because it can tell us a lot about a particular part of the Solar System.

I once held a piece of Mars in my hand. (It's kept locked up in the Natural History Museum.) Scientists can identify Martian meteorites from the data that the Mars rovers have sent back.
