One can hardly think of Texas without the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas" coming to mind. Who wrote the song and why? What is the story behind the song?

That is quite a back story. Who would ever have known that the original lyrics were changed?

How many years later did the yellow rose become the state flower?

The state flower of Texas is actually the Bluebonnet and has been since 1901. I am not aware of them having any other. But the pioneers used to sing the Yellow Rose of Texas song because it was a symbol of strength and courage as they drove their wagons across the state enduring many hardships to settle the area. The irony of the whole situation is the rose itself, the Harison yellow rose does not grow well in Texas because of the heat and dry summer months. So, that's the rest of the story. Thanks for the comments.
