What is decorated with flowers, has a large handcrafted metal bell around its neck, and quite often "moos' with indignation?

It's a cow on the annual Almabtrieb, a tradition which has had a permanent place in Bavarian farming life for generations.

In many villages the last golden days of summer and early autumn see processions of festively decorated cows, who create their own cow bell symphony, coming down from their summer pastures high up on the mountains and making their way to winter quarters.
