I have seen those purple carrots in the produce department! They look lovely but I haven't tried them myself.
At the local farmer's market, they also produce other colorful varieties of potatoes and carrots. The broccoflower hybrid of cauliflower and broccoli is interesting looking, too.
The colorful veggies would make wonderful party foods.
We called it cochineal when we were kids, and my Mom used to dye our Easter boiled eggs with it to get them to come out a bright cerise deep pink shells.
Well now, I wonder if we could use all sorts of food colouring with the white veges we get ... like cauliflower or parsnips or turnips? Orange cauli? Green parsnips? Bright yellow turnips? I wonder if leeks are worth a bash? Imagine some blue mash potato? Or purple rice?
I am going to try then I will report back. Won't you do so as well for fun and tell what the recipients of such a rainbow display say? Hah!
