Hello Musician friends,

Well, my formerly broken wrist is nearly fully recovered. I have just one more physical therapy session coming up, and I am once again playing my instruments and typing with both hands. Yay!

So this is article II on the topic of successfully coping with Musician Injuries.

The Show, Must It Go On? Injuries & Performance II
A serious injury can appear to be a daunting setback for a working professional musician. But there are options. Here is some advice based on my experience with a broken wrist.

Have you ever had an injury that prevented you from playing your instrument?

Glad to hear you wrist is healing rapidly Sabira.

I broke my little toe on my right foot in 1999. I haven't been able to play my toe zills since then. Just never recovered the right angle. I have had to use my fingers instead and it is frustrating. When I am belly dancing, sometimes I playfully caress someone as I walk by. I forget about my finger zills and accidently cut their face. This has affected my tips -not in a good way.

Wow, Lovely Rita! You are really coming out of your shell! I never knew that you are a belly dancer as well as a musician. And this disability must have been quite a setback for you.

I will be writing an article about my experiences with physical therapists. They were very helpful for getting my wrist fully functional. Maybe you can get physical therapy for your toes? ;-)

And you may want to read up on Safety And Liability Insurance for musicians.

Oh dear, lovely Rita, that won't do for a sophisticated musician such as yourself! Suggest that he apply ice-packs, and sing Michael Franks' "Popsicle Toes".
