Many libraries eschew the personal touch in favor of the "equal access/service for all" model. But is that really effective? If that is the case, doesn't that make the library nothing more than a Walmart or Best Buy?

Great question Christine! I love libraries with the personal touch. I MUST admit, however, I do enjoy the impersonal self-service check out msny times.

I love the library ladies, but sometimes I don't really want a conversation on the books I check out. The majority of them are career related, but sometimes it's not.

I think it's definitely worse since I work in the HR department, I always feel like my selection is under a microscope....LOL...
