Change happens every day. If that is the case, why are so many employees resistant to change? How do you go about getting employee buy-in?

How to Overcome Resistance to Change

So many people are resistant to change. I think sometimes change is necessary in order to achieve future success. Unless we change we will always get the same results and in order to advance we need to continuously approve.

Are you dislike change?

Hi Dianne:

I have nothing against changing (employee side of things) - I just think it should be an option when it can be.

I have worked in jobs from "hell" when change was shoved down your throat because my boss did not want to either do their job or hire extra help. They figured since I have always been a hard worker, this gave them the "right" to take advantage of this. Change can be a wonderful way to enjoy your job more!!! But change can also stress you out if it is being done for the wrong reasons.

I had to learn how to "gauge" my efforts on certain jobs/lol. Yes, they call it doing just enough to keep your job.

For the bosses who did not "disrespect" me, I continued to do the extra work that was not part of my job.

Bottom line, it is a give and take arrangement.

Great post as usual smile

H Ms Angela, Thank you so much for sharing. I always appreciate your insight. I'm certain that many others feel the same way about change. It can be stressful and more so depending on the way it's presented.

One of the questions that we ask during interviews is "Tell us about a time you had to conform to a new policy (change) to which you did not agree." The responses are always interesting.

Many will say that they agree to to all changess their management instituded because they're sure the changes were made for a reason.

There are also candidates that stated there have never been ANY new policies or changes in their workplace (how many believe that to be true?)

A select few will tell us about changes and either what they did to conform OR their workaround for changes.

I have a question...which one would you hire if the decision was based on this question? :-)

Hi Dianne:

I have worked in the Human Resource department several years ago as a clerk and never heard of your way of interviewing. It is different and I am sure gets you the right candidate every time.

Always enjoy hearing things from the management side - so thanks for taking the time to share with us. Much APPRECIATED!

Years ago (in previous employment), we didn't do behavioral based interviewing either, we just asked questions. The government that I work for now, absoluely prescribes to behavioral based interviewing. The premise being that how you acted on situations in the past is an indicator of how you would perform in the current job. Not to say it's a perfect method of interviewing, I don't know that there is such a thing, but just one of many, many interviewing methods.

Thanks and as always I appreciate your comments, you always bring a lot to the conversation and I love it!
