Economists are divided on whether stocks for retirees are a good investment. Some believe that they are because of the length of retirement (often 20 yrs. or more) needs more growth to a retirees' portfolio. Others believe that since earning power is much less or gone (no paycheck) that stocks are too risky to recover from losses.

I think that at a certain age, it may be wise to get assistance and that would be the only reason I would say yes.

Great question!

Stocks are more for long term investing but you are never too old to invest in options! Other short term methods like shorting a stock can be used too.

Thanks for sharing Julie.

It is true that stocks are more longer term investments.

However, I would not recommend options or shorting stocks, especially when a retiree. Options/shorting stocks are tricky and too often result in extra fees and losses.

In my opinion, options and shorting stocks are best left to the Wall Street pros.
