Did anyone go to a museum this summer? What did you see? What did you like about it? Was there anything you didn't like? Why?

Any plans to visit a museum this fall?

I'm a blessed with lil boy (9 yrs old now) who just LOVES museums!! After a great school year & awesome grades last year, he was granted a wish -- he chose a DC trip with major emphasis on the Smithsonian museums! He LOVED it, we saw them ALL (over a week). He even gets the Smithsonian magazine now too.

Earlier this year, we visited the Dali Museum & saw the Egyptian Mummy exhibit at the St. Pete Natural History & Fine Arts Museum. Last year, we had gone to the Ringling Bros. Museum in Sarasota (I live in Tampa, so these are nearby :- ) Locally, he loves the Robert B. Plant Museum, the Tampa Bay History Museum & MOSI :-)

Hopefully, next yr we can make a NYC trip. He had seen the Guggenheim, the Natural History & the Met as a child but doesnt remember them well. We used to live in the city when he was younger, so it was easy. We use to live in SD, CA too, so he's been to all the museums in Balboa Park & the Getty Museum in LA too!

I really wanted to get back to the Newseum this summer, but timing just has not worked out. I love all of the Smithsonian's and I LOVE they are free! Except the Newseum which is $20

Lukas (my 2.5 year old grandson) and I visited Henricus Park on the James River yesterday. We've been there a number of time since I have an annual pass. We had not been since June and I was amazed at how differently he examined all the exhibits this time. Previously he would just look at things and he would touch items but yesterday he thoroughly examined and touched and looked everything over.

As you enter the park there is a cannon. He says boom but now says cannon too. He touched it and picked up the chains and tried to figure out the hole in the frame (it would be the hole that the peg in the wagon that pulled the cannon). Then he checked out the militia's hut and wanted to check out the beds, climb up the ladder, sit on the stool, play the drum. There was a bear skin in the hut and he saw the paw and was touching that too. Mrs. Proctor's house was checked out again but he noticed new things like a yarn winder, bowls, etc. He talked to the goats, chickens, and Buttercup the pig. We usually stay about 40 minutes but yesterday we were there twice as long as usual.

National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI - Smithsonian) had an excellent exhibit on the Native American Olympian; especially the story of Jim Thorpe.

I need to get over to the National Air & Space Museum (on the Mall) for the Marine Air 100th Anniversary exhibits... <& it's only a hop-skip-&-jump away from my office... duh?>

I love the American Indian Museum at the Smithsonian! I think they have the best restaurant of all the museums. You can get authentic Native American dishes from different parts of the US.

The Smithsonian is my favorite museum of all I've visited. For living history, I love williamsburg, VA

We had went to Williamsburg to go to Busch Gardens, arriving a day early so we could do some sightseeing. I thought there were supposed to be something around there - re-actment or museum, but we couldn't find it - so ended up shopping in this outdoor mall. It was fun. We plan to go again soon.
