I am fascinated by the vending machines in Japan. I even saw one that makes fresh pizza!

What about those automats? They look like vending machines but there are people behind the walls, filling in the cooked boxed foods. Are they considered vending machines?

I really enjoy your articles. You write about very interesting things!

Wow, I've never seen a pizza vending machine... Where did you see it?

There's no lack of automats in Japan, and most of them dispense food tickets. They can be found in many restaurants.

An onsen I went to in Shimokita (the northernmost part of the main island of Japan) a couple of weeks ago actually had an automat that dispensed tickets for entry, bath towels, toothpastes/toothbrushes and shampoo!

Thanks for your continuing support, Lori! I'm merely imparting my personal experiences here in Japan. but I'm happy to know that it's been useful to at least one person~

I lived in Tokyo from 1989 - 1990 while training at Hatsumi's dojo. It was quite an adventure getting the address smile

I also spent a lot of time in the Iga, Ueno, and Koga regions gettng a "feel" for the areas that were instrumental in shaping the Togakure Ryu. During that time I think I may have once even been mistaken for a nature spirit by some monks, and I freaked out a bus driver by appearing on his bus without him noticing wink

Pic of a hot food vending machine at a train station. After you insert the money and make your choice, wait 110 sec for the food to be heated up.

The Japanese have a fascination with automated vending machines, don't they? I guess I'm showing my ancestral roots then because I find them fascinating, too. smile

I wish we had vending machines here that serve more than chips and candy bars. I saw one in Europe that makes pizza on the spot and another that fried french fries. Fresh food is better for one's health and blah, blah, blah but I guess I'm like a kid who likes to watch a gumball roll down into the shoot because I think vending machine and auto-mat food is fun.

Hey, wassap Lori? Great to hear from you again smile

Try living in Japan for a couple of years, and you'll probably get de-sensitized to it all... Unless you're eternally young at heart, that is ;p
