Hello everyone,

I'd like to present this painting and ask if anyone knows who the artist is and the name of the painting (if possible).

No guesses?

This painting is by James Abbott McNeill Whistler.

Can anyone guess its title?

It's a Nocturne, but I don't remember its name. Isn't it the one that Ruskin was so rude about that Whistler sued him? I saw the painting at a brilliant exhibition at the Tate Britain a number of years ago which featured Whistler with Turner and Monet.

Nocturne in Black and Gold: the Falling Rocket.
It lives in the Detroit art museum and I have seen it. It is smaller than I expected!
The quote from Ruskin was that "Whistler has thrown a pot of paint in the face of the public."

Mona and Claybird, you are both correct.

It is Whistler's Nocturnes. It's amazing how he can capture a night scene so vividly.

Bravo!

OK, since there aren't any guesses, I'll reveal the artist.

"Landscape During a Storm" is by Dutch painter Jacob van Ruisdael.

Does anyone like his landscapes?

I like his treatment of bare trees.
