With the best intentions sometimes we need extra help. Fresh out of the hospital, its very hot and humid, the Fourth of July is upon us. No matter what the circumstances we have got to keep these animals safe! Exotic pets are heat and cold sensitive and get plenty scared during fireworks!

We used to go to a fireworks display every year. When Snickers, our skittish cockatiel came to be part of our family, that stopped. You see, Snickie will get spooked by the fireworks and flop around his little house unless somebody is there to help him calm down. I'm always afraid that he'll break a blood feather. This little guy is worth more than all of the fireworks displays!

I completely agree. I always kept pliers handy during the fourth for blood feather breakage. It always scared the heck out of me. I worried about the glass doors...it is just plain dangerous!

We added some cold water to our backyard pond to keep them cool. We were careful not to add too much, since city water has dangerous chemicals in it.

I remember back to the "old days" keeping milk cartons full of water in the freezer, wetting gunny sacks and putting them over the cages. We would keep the milk cartons with the ice in the cages and keep wetting the gunny sacks. It was darn near a 20 hour a day job.
