Try this ultra-yummy way to preserve plums! Great as a dessert or with savory foods.

Hi there. What is the difference between a conserve, compote and preserves?

I've made black plum jam before and it was so sweet-tart that I fell in love with canning.

Thanks for this interesting recipe. I never thought to add nuts. Do the nuts keep their crunchy texture?

Hi, Lori,

According to the Joy of Cooking, my favorite standby, jams are made from pureed fruits, preserves from chunks of fruit, and conserves have several different fruits, and often include nuts and raisins. Compotes, which I looked up online, are made with fresh or dried fruitswhich are soaked in liquid such as a liqueurcooked in a light sugar syrup. Compotes are usually served in their cooking liquid as a dessert.

As for my conserve recipe, I, too fell in love with the flavor! And the nuts do stay rather crunchy. Be sure to check out my recipe for Cherry Almond Chutney, as well!

Thanks for the feedback, Lori!

One of my dreams is to make and sell jars of jams and preserves, as well as my baked goods! I have twice attempted the latter--with great success, only not sufficient working capital to keep the business going. Yet. Perhaps some day....!
