I've been away for a few days working on a Pilates and Ballet certification so I've been able to do some different workouts this week including:

7 mile hike to Malibu overlook in Topanga Canyon
3 mile hike to Hollywood Sign in Griffith Park
2 mile beach walk along Santa Monica beach path
yoga and Pilates in my hotel room
traditional circuit workout in hotel gym (treadmill/weights)

And what I've realized is that traditional circuit workouts are so monotonous, hard on the joints, and uninspiring compared to body weight workout options.

If machines are the only type of workout you'll do to say fit then keep doing it but if you're only doing traditional workouts because you feel you have to then find something else. There are so many other workout options out there that burn as many or more calories and fat.

Yesterday's boring workout was:
5 min. elliptical warmup
4 min. treadmill run
4 min. dumbbell circuit
4 min. bike sprints
4 min. dumbbell circuit
5 min. stretch
YAWN!! I can't stand doing this anymore even though I did this exclusively for nearly 10 years.

Instead of that try this:
5 min. walk in the park
4 min. jog or speed walk in the park
4 min. bodyweight exercises on park bench or park equipment (pushups, stepups, bodyweight rows, mountain climbers, lunges)
4 min. stair sprints or jog or speed walk
4 min. bodyweight exercises at home
5 min. yoga cool down at home
This is better for your mind body and soul than working out like a hamster on a wheel every day. At least try it once a week : )
