Kids going to college this fall?

As parents, many of us count on the verse, �Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.� We expect our children to continue living the way they were taught. The truth is that once our children leave home, they make their own decisions.

Lynne, I remember when our youngest was a senior in high school and he started running around with a crowd that was very different from our family. He was quite taken with them and all of the things that wealth could bring. One of his new friends had a parrot that had a larger room than our son's. His contempt for us was palpable.

Now, at age 25 he recognizes that we have an entirely different set of riches. Now, he has started coming closer to the values that he was raised with.

It is my belief that without some organic reason or life-changing event, kids will return to the values that they were raised with. That's why it is so important to give children a good basis for making decisions when they are older.

You're right. When children have a good foundation they will return. God won't let them go. It is hard to see them go through what they have to sometimes before they come back.
