Never happens. Lucky if I get new clothes every two years, and at that it will only be to replace pieces that are worn out. I hardly spend anything on clothes in a year's time. I just can't afford it now being alone and unemployed. I did the same thing back when I was married and working.

I agree that's a lot. I think it's an insane amount of money, personally, and makes me think this is why people are broke in this country.

I am not trying to be harsh! I just think that the things we think are necessities are in reality luxuries. Wearing warm clothes is important. Clean clothes are important. Fashionable clothes are really just in the eye of the beholder.

I love shopping for really nifty and unique pieces at thrift stores. I honestly can't imagine spending a tenth of that statistic on clothes. Maybe $100 a year, tops, for just me.

well, 2 pair of replacement jeans, plus 1 pair shoes, 1 sweater, 1 jacket, 4 blouses and little clothes, comes to about 300 euros a year. We don't have a thrift store in our village. In America I like to use consignment shops to buy. (little clothes are under things)

There are collection boxes on the streets for clothing and it is sent to the Middle East. I've never seen a thrift store. If you want to get rid of a useful household item, you put it out on the sidewalk next to your garbage bags and someone who wants it will take it away.

you do have flea markets though? I've heard there are great ones in Paris.

Jilly, Thanks for sharing the article.

I'm with everyone else here, no way in the world would I spend that much on clothes. Maybe a third. I still have the same work pants I bought over 5 years ago. I do buy the $8.00 color "t-shirts" they sell at Target as they work nice under jackets. I was raised to buy off the clearance rack. I find that thrift stores have gotten very pricey with their stuff.

My jeans are at least, at least 7-8 years old. After 13 years, I finally bought a new winter coat. Most of my clothes money does go to buying clothes for the kids, but sales and clearance there too.

Jilly, flea markets are not worth the time of day in my opinion, items I've seen are cheap and cheaply made.
