Ask a simple question, you get a simple answer.

The members on this forum are not all from the same locales or nations. Therefore, terminology or familiarity is as diverse as there are individuals. Your inquiry appeared to be unfamiliar with Wegmans as a regional distributor of food products.

You probably spent as much time keying in the comical, uninformed response as I used in a simple internet search...

Our own sub shop recipe. Gluten free. Lactose free. Vegan. Love at first bite. People have said they love the dressing used at our in-store sub shops! Now you can create your own tasty sandwiches at home. Top them with this olive oil blend with tangy red wine and Italian herbs and spices. Remember, your satisfaction is always guaranteed with Wegmans brand products. The Wegmans family.

Ingredients
Vegetable Oil (Soybean and Olive), Red Wine Vinegar, Spices, Contains Less Than 1% of Soy Lecithin, Dried Garlic, Sugar, Salt, Natural Flavor.

"Your inquiry appeared to be unfamiliar with Wegmans as a regional distributor of food products."

How so? It reads to me as someone unfamiliar with a specific product, a specific product specified in the inquiry.

"You probably spent as much time keying in the comical, uninformed response "

What do you mean uninformed? (Glaed you could appreciate the comical sense - i particularly like the prune - bacalao bit.)

I didn't ask that anyone do any internet search. If you didn't know the answer you could have simply not responded. Or you could have responded "I do not know." as hard as it can be to say that.

Sure, I could have searched for it myself, but under the "ask a simple question etc" premise, when someone posted that they used the product, I asked what it was. Indeed a simple question, with a simple answer potentially available from someone - someone who actually who knew that simple answer.

Do you think your original post in response to my question was responsive?

Thanks for the blurbs from the web. It does not seem unreasonable to assume that you did not know previously what the product is either - flavored oil and vinegar mix.

Look at this - What is Wegman's Submarine Dressing? Flavored oil and vinegar mix.

Now look at this - What is Wegman's Submarine Dressing? Wegman's is a grocery chain located in the Mid-Atlantic states.

Hmmm.

Geez, Frank -- having a bad time? You asked a question (not specific) and got an answer (specific). The subject is a moot point, just let it go and help me think of a really good homemade sub idea. smile

How about a meatball sub with salami and pizza sauce, Parmesan and jack cheeses. What else could we put on it? Hmmmmmm?

That would be good, Debbie. I love roasted peppers, but not hot chiles.

Dietz & Watson, from the Philly region I believe, have a similar "hoagie" dressing of extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar and herbs and spices for subs/hoagies. Gives homemade subs the deli taste. They don't list the extra ingredients but is is probably salt, pepper, oregano...Italian spices mostly.

Sometimes I like hard-boiled eggs on a sub, or I'll have a specialty sandwich with a different cheese, Havarti with dill or horseradish combined with a roast beef.

Hi all,

Just got back to the forums to see the lively exchange regarding Wegman's - which I apologize :-) --it is a grocery store chain based out of Rochester, NY. I had never heard of it either until our family was living in Rochester for a short period. The chain started branching out and now have stores way down here in Northern Virginia...LOL...It really is just a store brand item that we bought. I'm sure there are other brands. Some, however, are only oil and vinegar without the delicious spices we found in this particular brand. I'm not sure what spices, but we just bought another bottle last night so I'll take a peek, all I do know is you have to shake well!

I MUST keep in mind that we have a worldwide group of readers here.

I love meatball subs too, heavy on the tomato sauce with peppers, onions and tons of mozzeralla cheese! Oh my goodness...so good. We also make one with pepperoni instead of meatballs, mayo on the bread then alternating layers of tomato sauce, onions, peppers, pepperoni, parm cheese and mozzerella cheese and chedder cheese, stick the whole thing in the oven open-faced and another sandwich that is out of this world (though a little hot for the summer).

Vi, I have not heard the term "Hoagie" since I left the Pacific Northwest. A good ol' Hoagie was quite the thing to have for a quick meal.

I sometimes like just olive oil and vinegar drizzled on my subs, especially if I make a hot pastrami sub. Soooo good! A sprinkling of my own herb mix is good on subs also: pepper, thyme, and oregano. I love thyme on sandwiches.

Hard boiled eggs on a sub sounds good. I will have to try that.

Our youngest son was quite the sub fan when he was in high school. I had to have all of the trimmings, including shredded lettuce, thinly sliced tomatoes and onions, and of course the vinegar and oil with herbs.

He just loved it so much! This subject is bringing back the joy of his teen years.
