Returning after router difficulties last week!

Another spring-centric article, inspired by my frantic run to the pet store to pick up the first of this year's flea meds. Being from NY, I usually don't start with the flea medications until at least May. But it's been unseasonably warm, and better safe than sorry!

We've been using Frontline Plus on Kira, but the past two months that we've used it, she vomited a few times within 24 hours of using it. (She did it a couple of times today, but I didn't know about last month until my husband said, "Oh, yeah, she did that after you put the Frontline on her last time, too!") I don't think this is normal . . . Do you know of any effective flea and tick brands that don't contain the same ingredient as Frontline?

It's scary how much we put our trust in these meds to keep our dogs safe and have results like this one :-/ I did some checking -- it looks like it's not uncommon for dogs to have such a reaction.

The main active ingredient in Frontline is Fipronil, while the main ingredients in Advantix are Permithrin and Imidacloprid. I use Advantix for my dogs, and neither have had an adverse reaction -- might be the way to go for you.

Thanks for the quick feedback. She spent all last night and all morning sick. We called the vet today, and she even said, "Wash the Frontline off." I might try the Advantix next time--There's something called Sentry Natural Defense, too, that's supposed to be all-natural, so maybe I'll look into both. I don't know how effective an all-natural flea preventative might be, but anything is better than this!

Seeing our pets sick is worse than being sick ourselves... I always wish we could reassure them that they'll feel better soon.

I looked at the all-natural stuff, but wasn't sure how well it was going to work.... and with all the problems we've had with our boy, I fell back on the usual stuff :-/ Let us know how the natural stuff works if you try that! Would love to be able to switch to something with fewer chemicals.
