Linda-
I do not think you sound selfish at all. So many of us are a part of our faiths because our families or friends are of that faith and we simply know of nothing else/better. Staying true to your faith and honoring it because of your experiences and intuitive connections to it are honorable reasons to hold tight.
I love to learn more about religions and faiths. I enjoy getting an understanding for why people indulge especially, when the indulger indulges because of life experiences that bought them peace and light.

I am spiritual and have beliefs (karma + life after death + spirits + ghosts + guardian angels + other things) but I follow no religion so I do not believe in god. I am however opened, all I need to believe is get the proof that there is one (or more) and I will then believe plus I can talk and debate with people who do believe in god as long as they do not attack me and force their beliefs on me.
