If you are giving the gift of money, also give the gift of luck by putting the money in a red envelope and give an even amount such as $4.00 instead of $5.00.

There are some other matters to consider when giving money:

While even numbers are auspicious, giving one Chinese I-ching coin is extremely lucky.

Giving 8 is also good fortune. Giving 9 reflects long life, longevity.

Giving 4 is not so good, actually, because the Chinese word for it sounds too similar to the word for "death."
