Basically the answer is no. Check out the study conclusions below or click the link to see the entire article.

"I guess anything is better than nothing, but we were a little bit underwhelmed with the exercise intensity of some of the exercises, says Porcari. The Wii Fit is a very, very mild workout. Okay, first lets put this into perspective. As Porcari suggests, choosing Wii Fit over typically sedentary video games is a good decision. According to this study one would burn double the calories by playing Wii Fit. But users need to keep in mind that Wii Fit itself is no panacea.

Since using the Wii Fit alone may not produce results that meet recommended physical activity, guidelines notes study author Alexa Carroll, M.S., it is important that individuals participate in additional exercises to effectively reach these guidelines. In other words, Wii Fit shouldnt be your only workout." Wii Fit or Wii Bit? ACE FitnessMatters July/Aug. 2008

My opinion of wii fit is much like the Condescending Willy Wonka Meme

In other words do real workouts if you want real results that last laugh

Wow...thanks for the info. That's interesting. I know a lot of people who bought the Wii just for that reason.

My sister bought one with the kinect for Christmas and we all tried the tennis and the dancing games. I was TIRED! But I guess tired does not a work out make...LOL...

I used to box on the Wii, and after 1-2 matches I couldn't feel my arms and I was completely exhausted. So I think it depends on what you do on the Wii. Some workouts are a joke but not all...

Boxing was found to burn around 114 calories and energy expenditures fell below ACSMs recommended fitness guidelines so maybe good for sedentary folks but anybody wanting a real workout needs to go to a real boxing class.

There's just no way around it these days. You got to work hard to burn the calories or you won't get fit or get/stay lean. It's just part of what comes with our high tech sedentary lifestyles.
